Hello beautiful Souls. My message today is about listening. Hope all of you are well and embracing life with much gratitude today. I am truly grateful to be able to communicate.
I was listening to a group chatting the other day. I would like to ask you to do just this....listen..... I was sitting quietly just observing and listening whilst they chattered.. I didn't offer any words... Just listened.
Next time you are in a group, chatting... Just listen.... It's amazing!! Often we listen but we do not hear! Spend more time listening and less time talking. You will be surprised how much you learn.
Here are some tools to help you:
*Make a mental note of how much of the discussion is positive?
*How much is gossip, how much is factual?
*How much is judgemental, how much is pointing fingers?
*Is there a hidden agenda?
*Is there a cry for help or attention?
*Listen to someone else's s perspective. It may change yours.
When you next are part of a discussion try step back for a few moments and just listen. Very often people just need an ear. We all also need a voice , so allow others to speak their truth without interruption.
There needs to be a balance. This takes patience, restrain and decipline. Let others speak too and listen to hear not just to be seemily polite.
When you engage in a conversation make eye contact, engage with your fellow companion. I am deaf, have been for over 20 years. I wear hearing aids. I need people to at least respect me enough to look at me when they are talking. I lip read. When we are deaf we naturally lip read. I learnt to appreciate the gift of our senses and this strengthens our communication style. Our other senses will kick in and assist us if we learn to listen and really hear.
Communication is vital.... Both speaking and listening. The biggest challenge in communication is comprehension and understanding. If this is not present we need to ask and hear the explanation. It’s ok to say “ I don’t understand, please can you explain what you mean? Many misunderstandings come from assumptions and inability to explain well. Blessings 😇💜
